Return to Camping - Croatan National Forest

Fishers Landing

Fisher's Landing consists of nine primitive campsites on and around a long lawn at a bluff overlooking the Neuse River. There's a vault toilet and running water at the front of the site, and campsites have fire rings and picnic tables.

Fisher's Landing was the site of a Civil War skirmish in which Confederate troops defending New Bern quickly retreated under bombardment by Union gunboats.

Tall trees draped with Spanish-moss shade the site.

Stairs and a paved walkway lead to the river and bank fishing for striped bass, rock bass, redbreast-sunfish, largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, flounder and gar, according to the Forest Service. Swimming is also allowed.

Fisher's Landing, which is not on the state map, is about eight miles south of New Bern on U.S. 70. (Click on the map for a larger version.) Get a .pdf map of the Croatan here.
