Parkway repairs slow traffic
Blue Ridge Parkway drivers this month may see one-lane traffic at various points between Asheville and Roanoke, Va., as bridge repairs begin Monday, the Asheville Citizen-Times says.
Workers are cleaning and sealing bridge expansion joints, sealing deck surfaces and making spot repairs to decking. Work is to be completed by September.
The work may require one-lane traffic between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., the newspaper says.
The Parkway lists current closures and detours on its Web page, including between U.S. 421 and U.S. 321 in the Boone area (Milepost 285.5 to 291.8) until "late summer or early fall" for repairs to Goshen Creek Bridge, and, also near Boone, from Phillips Gap (Milepost 269.8) to Deep Gap (Milepost 276.4) until November for roadway fill repair. The site also warns of 10-15-minute delays or one-lane traffic for construction this summer at Milepost 401 near Mount Pisgah, Milepost 359 to 375 north of Asheville and Milepost 121 to 136 in the Roanoke area.
