Haw River master plan gets public hearing
The N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation will present proposed conceptual plans for Haw River State Park in a public meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, October 20, at the park’s The Summit Environmental Education Center. The public will be able to offer comments to officials of the state parks system and Swanson and Associates, P.A., a Carrboro-based landscape architecture firm responsible for completing the plan.
The hearing is part of the process to create the state park’s master plan, which is essentially a blueprint for long-term development of facilities and recreation opportunities, and a guide for protection of natural resources.
Haw River State Park, at Brown's Summit north of Greensboro, was authorized in 2003. It encompasses 1,334 acres, including the 200-acre campus of The Summit, a conference and training center with multiple conference rooms, a dining hall with buffet service for 200 people, cottages and cabins, an outdoor pool, a gymnasium and more.
Written comments about the master plan concepts will be accepted at the meeting and afterward through November 4. Comments can made to dpr.masterplancomments@ncdenr.gov or Haw River State Park Master Planning, N.C Division of Parks and Recreation, 1615 MSC, Raleigh, NC, 27699.
