Gorges State Park Re-Opens
The Asheville Citizen-Times povides a look at upgrades at Gorges Sate Park in Transylvania County. The park, which has been closed for a year during work, re-opens May 11.
Work includes paved parking, access to trailheads for Bearwallow Falls Trail in Gorges and to trails to Rainbow Falls and the Horsepasture River on National Forest land, and wheelchair-accessible overlooks of Jocassee Gorge and the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Construction of a visitor center, picnic areas, flush-toilet restrooms and a campground is to begin in January, according to the Citizen-Times.
Gorges State Park has plunging waterfalls, rugged river gorges, sheer rock walls and one of the greatest concentrations of rare and unique species in the eastern United States.
