Cape Hatteras Seashore access ramps re-open
Cape Hatteras National Seashore is shaking off the effects of the nor'easter accompanying Tropical Storm Ida that flooded much of the park earlier this month.
"The strong nor'easter that swept up the East Coast last week inundated many of the off-road vehicle ramps and flooded conditions linger in some areas but almost all of the beach access ramps are open to the public at this time," says the park's weekly beach access report, which was published early for Thanksgiving weekend.
Standing water remains in some areas, and ramps on Ocacroke may have debris. "Standing water, which may be saline, brackish or fresh, can be found with winter beach and tide conditions and may be unsafe for off-road vehicle travel," the report says. "Beach travelers should use caution when contemplating driving through standing water."
