National Park Service
Home of the National Park Service and America's national parks. The NPS site has a lot of information but you have to dig around to find it, including daily headlines and links to a wealth of parks information at NPS Digest and a directory of activities and events (which varies in its completeness year-to-year).

Recreation.gov
Information for planning visits to federal recreation sites and making campground and tour reservations.

Wilderness.net
General information about wilderness, stewardship and educational resources, scientific information, agency policies, relevant legislation, communication tools to connect you with others in the wilderness community and more - such as recreation links. Wilderness.net is a partnership project of the Wilderness Institute at The University of Montana's College of Forestry and Conservation, the Arthur Carhart National Wilderness Training Center and the Aldo Leopold Wilderness Research Institute.

America's Byways - North Carolina
The National Scenic Byways Program is a grass-roots collaborative effort established to help recognize, preserve and enhance selected roads throughout the United States. The North Carolina page links to information about the Blue Ridge Parkway and Cherohala Skyway, plus 44 local drives in the state.

Tennessee Valley Authority Recreation
Information about recreation on the TVA's reservoirs and the 290,000 acres of land surrounding them.

U.S. Department of the Interior
The Department of the Interior is the nation's principal land and water conservation agency, and the umbrella department for the National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of (Water) Reclamation, U.S. Geological Survey, Bureau of Indian Affairs and more, which are linked from the DOI site.
