Jordan Lake Educational State Forest

Helicopter at Jordan Lake ESF

With the many day-use areas, campgrounds and boat ramps at Jordan Lake, it is easy to overlook the educational state forest on its western shore. When we were there, in fact, it was pretty empty.

Like other ESFs, Jordan has short trails, including the talking tree trail, and a large picnic shelter with a fireplace. It also has a Forest Service fire-control helicopter and bulldozer on exhibit, a pond and a small garden/amphitheater.

Here's the trail map.

Down at the lake's edge, which we reached from the fire demonstration loop trail, you could certainly see the effect of the drought reflected in the broadened beach.

Don't know what the point of this make-shift teepee might be.

Sign at Jordan Lake ESF A boundary sign reminded us that most of the land around Jordan Lake is state game lands.
